John McCain’s 2000 Presidential Campaign Senator John McCain gave a powerful speech today for the Reagan Republican Party. He proclaimed he was the better candidate. He said â€Å"I will not padlock the Republican Party, and surrender the future of our nation to Speaker Gephardt and President Al Gore. He stood firm in his beliefs and brought strength to conservatives around the nation. He proclaimed that he will restore faith in those who have lost faith in the Republican Party. Evangelical leaders such as Chuck Colson and James Dobson were among praise but Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell were revengefully attacked within the speech. The speech continued with religious views and tells a short story of how he belongs to a faith that â€Å"unites and never divides.† He wants to restore the people’s trust in the government and their pride in public service. He is â€Å"building a new Republican majority, a majority to serve the values that have long defined our party and made our county great.† He feels that no fear should be bestowed upon him because he will â€Å"honor his obligations to the old and young.† Although he is strongly Republican later in his speech he mentions that he would first cut taxes for those who need it most.
